Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program

Our rental assistance program is officially called the "Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program", but is commonly known as Section 8.  This program assists over 1,400 families in Yamhill County.  The income limit for this program is 50% area median income.

The HCV Program allows eligible families to find their own rental unit in the private housing market. The family pays a portion of the rent and utilities (equal to 30 percent of their adjusted monthly income), and the Housing Authority pays the balance. Both our payments and the tenant's are made directly to the landlord. We pay our portion of the rent as long as the tenant lives in the unit and is program eligible, and the remainder of the tenancy is between the landlord and the tenant.

The Housing Authority has a contract with HUD, which provides funding for the program. The HCV program is HUD's largest housing program nationwide.

Our Section 8 wait list is currently 3-4 years.

IF YOU NEED HELP RIGHT AWAY:

We do not have emergency assistance available. If you are at immediate risk of homelessness you can view our Community Resource List for possible help available in your area.

There is other subsidized housing available in Yamhill County. There might be units available more quickly than you can get a voucher. Head to the RENTAL LISTINGS section to view other affordable units in Yamhill County and call them to see if they have apartments for rent.

It is possible to move into a unit and still stay on our waiting list while you wait for a Voucher. Whether or not the unit is eligible for our program would be determined after you receive a Voucher.
